Rediscover your inner artist with your child
When is the last time you built a fort in your living
room, wore an outfit that
clashed (not red with pink – I mean plaid &
polka dots with a jellybean necklace)
or just decided to take the road less traveled? If you’re
a parent you have
probably watched your children do this, but as adults
creative play may not be
part of your own regular routine. more>>
Should we punish our children?
The Oxford Dictionary defines punishment as: "to
make another person suffer
because he has done something wrong." But who is
to decide what is wrong?
Often times a child will feel totally legitimized in
his choice and feel strongly
that a punishment is unreasonable and unjust. This may
lead to parent-child
disconnection and a lost opportunity for mutually respectful
discussion. I recently
met with a mother who was upset with her son because
he refused to rehearse
a school speech in front of her. Mom’s reply was:
"Fine. Practice in your room
but I will be listening at the door." more>>
